About Meat Draw

Welcome to Meat Draw Books.

I’m D. Grant Black, a seasoned writer-editor, former magazine publisher, communications hack and unemployable creative that decided to start an independent, non-fiction commercial imprint.

I call this ‘daring adventure’ Meat Draw Books.  My partner, Patricia, once opened a fortune cookie at a Chinese restaurant that proclaimed: “Get ready for a daring adventure.” Helen Keller once summed it up even better with “life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”

A meat draw, in case you haven’t participated in one, is a buy-a-ticket-win-a-chance to-take-home-a-whack-of-meat. They tend to be held at Royal Canadian Legions where a carnivore raffle prize is highly valued. Canucks call them “meat draws” and the Yanks, usually at American Legions, call them “meat raffles.” I like this rudimentary lottery tradition to fill your freezer with protein plus the word “draw” signifies life’s lottery.

We publish non-fiction titles only. Memoir, satire, travel, sport, food & drink, essay anthologies with specific themes, self-help and graphic novels.

We hope you enjoy what we offer: innovative titles by enlightened writers for engaged readers. Get ready for a daring adventure.
